Abstract: The present invention relates to a four-flanged catheter-based rotary debulking apparatus (100) for controlled mechanical debulking of firm brain tumor tissue. The apparatus (100) comprises a motorized dental micro-drill handpiece (1), a plain drill bit or mandrel (2) operatively connected with the handpiece (1), and a catheter-based debulking sleeve (3) mounted coaxially over the plain drill bit or mandrel (2). A distal/front end of the catheter-based debulking sleeve (3) is configured as a front four-flanged flower-shaped cutting mouth (4) having four outwardly flanged cutting petals (5), each defining a cutting edge (6). During operation, rotary motion from the handpiece (1) rotates the sleeve (3) and the cutting mouth (4) to mechanically cut, shave, scrape, excise, or debulk firm brain tumor tissue. The apparatus (100) may include a speed control arrangement (7) and a locking or mounting portion (8).
