Abstract: The present subject matter is a composite formulation comprising bentonite clay, ZnO nano particles and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB). The method of preparation of the composite formulation comprises the steps of preparing the ZnO nanoparticles, mixing raw bentonite with ZnO nanoparticles and CTAB, removal of moisture to produce the functionalized bentonite composite. The enhanced adsorption performance seen in azo dye adsorption trials is in good agreement with structural improvement due to the functionalisation of bentonite. This highlights its potential application in wastewater treatment processes for removal of synthetic dyes.
