Abstract: The present invention provides a herbal nanoemulgel composition for the topical management of hypertrichosis comprising an oil-in- water nanoemulsion incorporated into a Carbopol 940 hydrogel matrix, the nanoemulsion comprising 1 to 2 percent w/w herbal extract blend of green tea, aloe vera and turmeric, an oil phase of olive oil or coconut oil or caprylic-capric triglycerides, Tween 80 as surfactant and Span 20 as co-surfactant adjusted to a hydrophilic-lipophilic balance of 9.65 to 16.7. The dispersed droplets exhibit mean size of 78 to 120 nanometres, polydispersity index below 0.2 and zeta potential more negative than minus 30 millivolts. The composition exhibits skin-friendly pH of 6.3 to 6.8, viscosity of 4500 to 5120 centipoise, drug content of 98 percent, and delivers cumulative permeation of 33.62 micrograms per square centimetre at 24 hours, exceeding conventional gel and marketed formulations. The composition is non-irritant, stable for three months and reduces hair length and density by about 48 percent and 45 percent respectively after 21 days.
