Abstract: The present invention discloses a bioactive polymeric spray formulation designated as C- FootCare-DM developed for chronic diabetic wound care. The formulation comprises an aqueous leaf extract of Xanthium striimarnim integrated into a chitosan-alginate polymeric network along with pharmaceutically acceptable stabilizing and viscosity-modifying agents. The ionic interaction between chitosan and alginate results in formation of a polyelectrolyte complex that enables sustained release of plant-derived bioactive compounds. The developed formulation demonstrates antioxidant potential, antimicrobial activity against wound- associated microorganisms, and cytocompatibility with mammalian skin cell lines under in vitro conditions. The spray delivery format provides uniform surface coverage and supports maintenance of a moist wound microenvironment. The invention provides a stable, scalable, and non-invasive therapeutic platform suitable for chronic diabetic wound management.
