Abstract: This invention relates to an autonomous system and method using artificial intelligence in order to intelligently manage the food lifecycle, the objective being to reduce avoidable food waste, improve operational efficiency, recover economic value, and promote the sustainable use of food. The system employs computer vision, machine learning, multi-agent artificial intelligence, digital twin simulation, optimisation algorithms, and real-time data processing so as to monitor and control food-related activities from the stages of procurement and preparation right through to consumption, redistribution, and the processing of waste. A number of dedicated AI agents collaborate in order to analyse data on food demand, inventory, waste, freshness, pricing, consumer behaviour, logistics, and sustainability. The system can identify waste patterns, estimate demand, optimise the quantities of food that are bought and produced, prioritise ingredients according to the time remaining on their shelf life, and suggest or carry out revenue recovery by means of dynamic pricing and surplus offers. When surplus cannot be avoided, the system determines an appropriate way of putting the food to use, this involving donation, redistribution, use as animal feed, composting or the production of biogas, depending on the state of the food, the amount involved, the location, the available capacity, the logistics and the environmental considerations. The digital twin enables operational scenarios to be simulated before they are implemented, and an explainable decision module provides the reasons for the AI's recommendations. The system also generates sustainability metrics, estimates of resource savings, circular economy indicators, and decision support tailored to various stakeholders, thus providing an integrated and adaptive solution for the intelligent management of the food lifecycle.
