MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202617050338 A) filed by Shore Medical Pty Ltd on April 20, 2026, for Foetal Vacuum Extractor.

Inventors include Wharton, Philip; Kratzer, Oliver; and Wallace, William.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: The foetal vacuum extractor comprises a proximal handle, a distal suction cup, and a traction member that pulls the suction cup from the handle to provide assistive traction during childbirth. The proximal handle includes a distal portion reciprocally accommodating a proximal portion, with the distal portion defining a neck interfacing the traction member. Shoulders adjacent to the neck provide a gripping surface for opposing forefingers. The handle is manually pumped to operate a mechanical pump that induces suction in the suction cup via a pneumatic tube. A force gauge in the handle, with haptic protrusions extending through the shoulders, provides tactile force feedback to monitor applied tension. The extractor may also include a flexion point marker along the traction member, allowing precise alignment of the suction cup with the foetus's flexion point, and monitoring traction progress.
