Abstract: ABSTRACT: The present invention discloses an enzyme-responsive colour-changing and fluorescenceemitting paper point for rapid detection of viable bacteria in root canal systems. It comprises an absorbent paper point substrate impregnated with fluorescein diacetate (FDA), a nonfluorescent chromogenic substrate that undergoes enzymatic hydrolysis in the presence of bacterial esterases. Upon insertion into an infected canal, metabolically active microorganisms cleave FDA to release fluorescein, producing a visible yellow-green colour and strong fluorescence under blue or ultraviolet light. The system enables real-time, chairside assessment of bacterial viability, improving diagnostic specificity and aiding in determining the endpoint of canal disinfection prior to obturation. The invention offers a simple, cost-effective, and clinically applicable adjunct for endodontic practice
