MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611045667 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi on April 09, 2026, for Fluorescent Metal-Organic Framework Composition For Visualization Of Latent Fingerprints And Method Of Preparation Thereof.
Inventors include Upadhyay, Chandan; and Dwivedi, Arpita.
The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.
Abstract: A fluorescent metal-organic framework composition for visualization of latent fingerprints and method of preparation thereof is provided. The fluorescent metal-organic framework composition includes europium-benzene-1,4-dicarboxylate (Eu–BDC) metal-organic framework (MOF) of the general formula Eu2(BDC)3·nH2O. The method involves a solvothermal process for synthesizing the fluorescent metal-organic framework composition. The composition is in a form of powder, which exhibits a strong fluorescence under ultraviolet (UV) excitation and adhere to fingerprint residues for visualization of latent fingerprints on a substrate. The composition allows fingerprint visualization using standard portable ultraviolet light sources, allowing on-site forensic application by user. The composition enables rapid, non-destructive, and high-resolution detection of latent fingerprints on a variety of surfaces under ultraviolet illumination.
