Abstract: ABSTRACT Fluorescent 2-(4-((1H-1,2,3-triazol-5-yl)methoxy)phenyl)-1H-phenanthro[9,10-d]imidazole derivatives The present invention discloses a library of twenty Phenanthro-Imidazole-linked 1,2,3-Triazole (PIT) derivative compounds (8a-8t) of the general molecular formula 1-phenyl-2-(4-((1-phenyl-1H-1,2,3-triazol-5- yl)methoxy)phenyl)-1H-phenanthro[9,10-d]imidazole], synthesized via a three-staged multicomponent reaction incorporating CuAAC click chemistry, which can be used as fluorescence-based chemosensors for the selective and sensitive trace-level detection of military-grade nitroexplosive materials TNT, RDX, and PETN. The synthesized compounds are highly efficient at detecting even minute concentrations of nitroaromatics and other electron-deficient analytes in any kind of matrix, due to the prolonged conjugation of the phenanthrene moiety and the electron-donating properties of the imidazole ring. The synthesized chemosensors can be used to prepare fluorescent test strips or TLC plates, for the rapid on-site detection of the presence of explosives in any real-world simple or complex matrix like tap water, wastewater, industrial effluent etc. The chemosensor coated paper strips gives visual detection limit of TNT upto 44.03 nM.
