Abstract: The invention described here is a closed-loop flow measurement and calibration platform built around a magnetic flow meter, a rotameter, and a Siemens S7-1200 PLC connected to a WinCC SCADA interface. Flow from a centrifugal pump passes through both sensors before returning to the reservoir. When calibration is needed, the PLC diverts flow into a graduated volumetric tank, times the fill using an internal precision timer, and calculates the actual flow rate from first principles (Q = V/t). It then computes the deviation between this reference value and the magnetic meter reading, logs everything with a timestamp, and displays the results on the SCADA screen. No manual timing or operator input is required during the calibration cycle. Based on the volumetric calibration methodology and published benchmarks, percentage errors are expected to fall between 3.06% and 6.00% with a mean of approximately 3.94%, meeting accepted laboratory instrumentation standards. The system addresses a longstanding gap in educational and research flow measurement equipment by combining automated calibration, multi-sensor comparison, real-time SCADA monitoring, and structured data logging in a single, affordable platform.
