Abstract: Filters for removing leukocytes from a biological fluid include a flexible housing with first and second sheets. A filter media and an intermediate layer are at least partially positioned between the sheets of the housing, with an inner seal joining the first housing sheet, the filter media, and the intermediate layer. The intermediate layer may be embossed, with a textured side including a plurality of protrusions and a flat side including a plurality of flat depressions, with the intermediate layer being oriented to place the flat side into contact with the filter media. The inner seal is formed by application of pressure and an electrical current, with the magnitude of the electrical current being based on the roughness of the intermediate layer. Opposing sides of the inner and outer ends of the inner seal may each have a radius that is greater than or equal to 0.5 mm.
