MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202541004833 A) filed by Icfre-Institute Of Wood Science And Technology on January 21, 2025, for Flame Retardant Bamboo Mat Based Composites And Preparation Method Thereof.

Abstract: A method for preparing a flame-retardant bamboo mat composite comprises selecting defect-free bamboo mats and oven-drying the bamboo mats. The method further comprises impregnating the dried bamboo mats with nano-silicon dioxide under pressure, followed by oven drying. The method further comprises performing a second impregnation of the bamboo mats with a mixture of diammonium phosphate and dicyanamide, followed by oven drying. The method further comprises applying phenol formaldehyde resin to the chemically treated bamboo mats and glass fiber strand mats using a dipping method, and air-drying the mats. The method further comprises arranging the treated bamboo mats and glass fiber strand mats in alternating layers to achieve a desired composite thickness. The method further comprises hot pressing the layered assembly. The method further comprises conditioning the pressed composite to achieve the final flame-retardant bamboo mat composite.
