MUMBAI, India, June 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441099816 A) filed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited on December 17, 2024, for Fixture For Machining Flat Surface Of Non-Rigid Aero Engine Component.
Inventors include Ramappa; Anand S; Naveen Kumar H; Mahesh Hatti; and Gangadharappa Arkachari.
The application for the patent was published on June 19, 2026, under issue no. 25/2026.
Abstract: The invented fixture consists of three Mounting Pads [06] and Spring [09] loaded four Expanding Segments [03] in concentric to the rotary axis. The part [25] butt on the three pads [06], clamped by mechanical clamps [1 0] and the other datum surface [22] get machined .. The three-pad butting literally makes the part float. This will help in nullifying any errors in the butting surface like flatness error ·or warpage, to get reflected on the surface to be machined [22]. The spring [09] loaded four expandable segments [03] expands equally outwards, as the cone block [04] moves downward by tightening the nut (08]. This will enable clamping in Inner Diameter [27] of the part (25] as. well as brings the part in concentric with machine rotary axis. In this fixturing method, the part will be completely in unstrained condition and will be machined without any pre-deflection due to clamping.
