Abstract: ABSTRACT FIREFLY ALGORITHM-BASED RESOURCE OPTIMIZATION SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR TASK SCHEDULING IN CLOUD COMPUTING ENVIRONMENTS The present invention discloses a system (100) and method for optimized task scheduling and resource allocation in cloud computing environments using a discrete Firefly Algorithm. The system comprises a cloudlet input module (110) for receiving computational tasks, a virtual machine configuration module (120) for defining heterogeneous virtual machines, a Firefly Algorithm engine (130) that generates and iteratively optimizes a population of candidate scheduling solutions through pairwise brightness-based attraction using normalized Hamming distance as a proximity metric, a dual- objective fitness evaluator (140) that computes fitness as weighted combination of makespan and load standard deviation, and a schedule execution module (150) for deploying the optimal schedule. The attraction-based movement operator probabilistically copies differing task assignments from brighter to dimmer firefly schedules using a Gaussian decay attractiveness function. The system achieves significant makespan reduction compared to conventional Round-Robin scheduling while ensuring balanced resource utilization across all heterogeneous virtual machines in the cloud environment.
