Abstract: Provided herein is a filtration unit comprising a filtration element and a screening device. The screening device comprises screening mesh body an orifice substantially positioned in the center of the screening device, an external ring in the outer periphery of the screening device, and a screening mesh body therebetween. Further provided is a filtration system comprising a vessel, a feed port, a permeate outlet, optionally a retentate outlet, and at least a filtration unit within the vessel. For at least one of the filtration units, the screening device is positioned upstream of the filtration element.
