Abstract: The invention relates to a filter element (10) for filtering a fluid, in particular air, at least comprising a filter medium body (12) having a filter medium (14) laid in folds (16), in particular in a zigzag shape, along a longitudinal extent (50) of the filter medium body (12), wherein the folds (16) form fold valleys (20) and fold peaks (18), wherein the fold peaks (18) span a first end face (22) and the fold valleys (20) span a second end face (24) which lies opposite with respect to a vertical extent (52) of the filter medium body (12). Along the longitudinal extent (50), the filter medium body (12) has variable fold heights (26) and/or a variable fold pitch (27), such that, along the longitudinal extent (50), at least one end face (22) of the end faces (22, 24) has a course which is profiled with respect to the other end face (24), in which course one or more regions (104, 106) having a monotonic gradient and regions (108, 110) having a radial shape are present. A sealing element (28) is arranged peripherally around the end face (22) having the profiled course. The contour of the sealing element (28) follows the profiled course, and the sealing element essentially has a constant height (29) at least in the direction of the vertical extent (52).
