MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641110702 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology, Chennai on September 15, 2026, for Fibre-Reinforced Concrete Composite And Method Of Preparation Thereof.

Inventors include Varunraj; Sivayogaraj A; and Elavenil S.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: A fibre-reinforced concrete composite and a method of preparation thereof. The fibre-reinforced concrete composite includes a dual-geometry reinforcement system for mortars including polymeric twisted fibres in combination with polymeric staple cut fibres. The polymeric staple cut fibres control shrinkage and early microcrack formation due to their high distribution density. The polymeric twisted fibres provide mechanical anchorage and resistance against pull-out during macrocrack propagation. The combined presence of the polymeric staple cut fibres, and the polymeric twisted fibres creates a staged reinforcement mechanism where micro-level crack arrest and macro-level energy absorption act together, producing significantly enhanced bonding, toughness, and durability. This dual-geometry system is achieved without relying on chemical coatings or costly fibre treatments, thereby improving sustainability, reducing processing complexity, and enabling use of recycled PET resources.
