MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641113903 A) filed by Mohan Babu University on September 23, 2026, for Fiber Optic Vibration Sensor System For Real-Time Automobile Structural Health Monitoring Applications.

Inventors include Dr. P. Geetha; Mr. Boya Keshava; Mr. A. Jaya Vardhan; Mr. B Ravi Teja; and Ms. A Vijaya Lakshmi.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a fiber optic vibration sensing system (100) and method (200) for real-time structural health monitoring of automobile components. The system comprises an optical fiber sensing unit (102), an optical source module (104), a vibration coupling arrangement (106), an electromagnetic field monitoring module (108), a signal processing and analysis module (110), a diagnostic unit (112), an adaptive optical compensation module (114), and a distributed sensing arrangement (116). Mechanical vibrations generated by engine assemblies, transmission systems, suspension members, wheel assemblies, and structural components induce variations in optical propagation characteristics including electric field distribution, magnetic field distribution, optical intensity, and effective mode index within the optical fiber sensing unit (102). The measured variations are processed to identify structural anomalies and generate diagnostic information. The invention provides immunity against electromagnetic interference, improved vibration sensitivity, real-time fault detection capability, distributed monitoring functionality, and predictive maintenance support for automobile structural systems.
