Abstract: ABSTRACT Fiber Cut Monitoring Device for Real-Time Detection in Last-Mile Dark Fiber Networks The invention hereof pertains to a system and method for detecting fiber cuts last mile passive dark fiber networks in real time. The system consists of a laser diode transmitting a constant light signal through a chosen core of the passive dark fiber, and a light sensor receiving the returning light signal reading from a spliced return cooled source at the Point of Presence (POP) location. A processor extracts the light signal and reports out of normal or unexpected disruptions which can indicate a fiber cut. Once detected, the processor generates an alert and transmits that alert via communication module back to the network management system. The system may also consist of a power supply capable of powering the system, memory unit for saving system configuration, operational information, a diagnostic module to perform self-checks for assessment of operational capabilities and external sensors to record the environmental effects on the system operation, etc
