Abstract: The Fall Detection and Safety Alert Device for Elderly Patients is a low-cost, automated safety system designed to provide immediate assistance to elderly individuals, particularly those living alone. Falls are one of the leading causes of injury among the elderly, and delayed medical response significantly increases health risks. Existing fall detection and emergency alert systems are often expensive, complex, or require manual user intervention, which may not be feasible during an emergency. The proposed invention utilizes an inertial sensing unit, specifically an MPU6050 accelerometer and gyroscope, integrated with a microcontroller-based processing unit to continuously monitor body motion and orientation. Sudden changes in acceleration and abnormal posture patterns are analysed to accurately detect fall events. Upon detection of a fall, the system automatically triggers an alert mechanism in the form of an audible buzzer and optional wireless notification to caregivers or family members. The device operates with minimal power consumption and requires no active input from the user, ensuring continuous monitoring and reliability. The compact and wearable design makes it suitable for daily use by elderly Patients. The invention provides an affordable, user-friendly, and effective solution to bridge the critical time gap between fall occurrence and emergency response, thereby enhancing elderly safety and independence.
