Abstract: The proliferation of misinformation is a mounting challenge in the current information-centric era, primarily fueled by the rapid and unchecked dissemination of fabricated news via social media and the internet. This endeavor showcases the creation of an internet-based tool for identifying fake news that leverages machine learning to discern authentic news from fabricated ones. At the heart of this tool lies a Multinomial Naive Bayes classifier that has been trained on a dataset comprising genuine as well as fabricated news stories and which has been preprocessed with a TF-IDF vectorizer in order to identify significant text patterns. The program is developed with Flask, a web framework of Python, and provides an engaging and category-based user interface, where users can choose a news category and submit the text for confirmation. The system not only provides instant prediction but also keeps a record of user interactions and results for monitoring the performance. Moreover, it has separate units for data storage and reporting, thus making it scalable for introducing new features like trend charting, and analytics at the admin level. This work presents how machine learning and natural language processing can be properly brought together in a receptive web application to fight against the spread of false information and at the same time encourage responsible behavior in the digital world.
