MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641098896 A) filed by Dr. Mani Jayavelu; Dr. B A; Dr. A. Suresh; C Kiran; Akula Sai Hemanth; D. Pavithra; and V S Ravi on August 15, 2026, for Fail Safe Overload Coupling With Resettable Detent Mechanism.

Inventors include Dr. Mani Jayavelu; Dr. B A Devan; Dr. A. Suresh; C Kiran; Akula Sai Hemanth; D. Pavithra; and V S Ravi.

The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.

Abstract: A purely mechanical torque-limiting coupling (10) comprising a drive hub (14) and a coaxially journalled driven hub (16) coupled by spring-loaded detent elements (36) seated in ramped seats (38). On exceeding a preset release torque the detent elements are expelled, translating a carrier plate (32) against a Belleville spring stack (42) until a resiliently urged latch member (56) enters a retaining groove (50) and positively captures the plate in the disengaged position. The hubs thereafter rotate independently with zero transmitted torque, eliminating the destructive ratcheting of conventional ball-detent limiters. A hand-operated reset collar (60) acting through a cam track (62) withdraws the latch and restores engagement without tools, without a sacrificial element and without angular alignment of the shafts. Release torque is set by a graduated preload adjuster (44); a tell-tale pin (66) indicates the tripped state and may actuate a proximity switch (70).
