MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611101533 A) filed by Chandigarh University on August 22, 2026, for Face Recognition-Based Authentication System For Secure Usb Flash Drive Access.

Inventors include Surjeet Singh Chauhan; Gagandeep; and Shivani Kamboj.

The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a face recognition-based authentication system for secure USB flash drive access, comprises a camera module, an embedded processor, and a plug-and-play USB interface, wherein the camera module captures facial images of a user upon connection of the USB flash drive to a host device. The embedded processor executes a lightweight deep learning-based facial recognition algorithm to extract facial features and compare them with encrypted biometric templates securely stored within the USB flash drive. Access to the stored data is granted only upon successful authentication, while unauthorized access attempts maintain the storage device in a locked state. The system performs all biometric processing, template matching, and authentication locally without requiring internet connectivity. The invention incorporates encrypted biometric storage, firmware-based access control, power-efficient operation, tamper detection, and multi-user authentication with role-based access privileges.
