MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611039688 A) filed by Galgotias University on March 30, 2026, for Fabrication, Characterisation, And Optimisation Of Rice Straw (oryza Sativa) Waste-Derived Bioplastic For Sustainable Industrial Packaging Applications.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for fabrication of biodegradable bioplastic using rice straw-derived cellulose. Cellulose is extracted from rice straw using a microwave-assisted process and blended with cassava starch and plasticizers to produce bioplastic films. The formulation is optimized using factorial design to enhance mechanical and functional properties. The developed bioplastic exhibits improved tensile strength, thermal stability, moisture resistance, and biodegradability. The invention provides a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to conventional plastics while utilizing agricultural waste, making it suitable for industrial packaging applications.
