Abstract: The increasing spread of invasive weed species has created significant ecological and environmental challenges, thereby necessitating sustainable biomass management strategies. The present study focuses on the extraction of nanocellulose from invasive weed biomass for environmental applications using an eco-friendly and cost-effective approach. Selected invasive weeds rich in lignocellulosic content were subjected to sequential pretreatment processes including washing, drying, alkaline treatment, bleaching, acid hydrolysis, ultrasonication, and mechanical homogenization for efficient cellulose isolation and nanocellulose production. The extracted nanocellulose was characterized using SEM, FTIR, XRD, and TGA analyses to evaluate its surface morphology, functional groups, crystallinity, and thermal stability. The obtained nanocellulose exhibited high surface area, biodegradability, improved crystallinity, and excellent adsorption properties, making it highly suitable for wastewater treatment, pollutant adsorption, filtration membranes, and other environmental remediation applications. The study demonstrates an effective method for converting harmful invasive weeds into valuable biodegradable nanomaterials, thereby contributing to sustainable resource utilization, environmental protection, waste biomass valorization, and circular bioeconomy development.
