MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641076171 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 19, 2026, for Explainable Multimodal Student Burnout Detection System Using Academic Reflection Analytics.
Inventors include Manikandan G; Midhunlal P; and Sreyaas C U.
The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an explainable multimodal student burnout detection system (100) and a corresponding computer-implemented method. The system (100) comprises a data acquisition module configured to receive structured and unstructured educational data including student self-reports, textual reflections, examination-stage information, emotional indicators, and behavioural indicators. A preprocessing module normalizes and cleans the received data, while a feature extraction module generates contextual, semantic, statistical, behavioural, and emotional feature representations. A burnout masking analysis module generates a Burnout Masking Index through discrepancy analysis among extracted indicators. A prediction engine processes the generated features and Burnout Masking Index to produce burnout classifications. An explainability module generates interpretable feature-contribution information corresponding to the generated classifications. The system (100) further enables processing of incomplete educational records while preserving contextual information associated with individual records.
