MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621073640 A) filed by Medicaps University, Indore on June 13, 2026, for Explainable Multimedia Evidence Authentication Using Compression Artifact Analysis.

Inventors include Ayushi Pawar; Supriya Tomar; Akash Kumar Nag; and Shain Shaikh.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: EXPLAINABLE MULTIMEDIA EVIDENCE AUTHENTICATION USING COMPRESSION ARTIFACT ANALYSIS The present disclosure discloses an explainable multimedia evidence authentication system (100) comprising an evidence acquisition module (102) configured to receive multimedia evidence from digital sources; a preprocessing module (104) configured to perform metadata extraction, resolution normalization, color space conversion, and compression parameter extraction; a compression artifact analysis engine (106) configured to extract discrete cosine transform coefficients, quantization inconsistencies, histogram anomalies, blocking artifacts, and recompression traces; a processor-implemented authentication module (108) configured to perform machine learning and convolutional neural network-based authenticity analysis; an explainability generation module (110) configured to generate heatmap-based localization outputs corresponding to suspicious multimedia regions; a forensic reasoning engine (112) configured to correlate compression artifacts, metadata inconsistencies, authenticity scores, and localization outputs; and a report generation module (114) configured to generate forensic authentication reports comprising tampering probability, suspicious region localization, forensic indicators, and evidentiary integrity assessment. The compression artifact analysis engine (106) identifies authenticity anomalies associated with manipulated multimedia evidence and the explainability generation module (110) generates interpretable forensic outputs for multimedia authentication.
