Abstract: This invention presented the design and implementation of Evidence Vault, a secure and decentralized digital evidence management system that leverages blockchain technology, cryptographic techniques, and distributed storage. The system was developed to address the limitations of traditional evidence management systems, which often suffer from issues related to tampering, lack of transparency, and reliance on centralized trust. The proposed system integrates a hybrid Web2/Web3 architecture, combining frontend interfaces, backend processing, IPFS-based decentralized storage, and blockchain-based verification. Through this integration, the system ensures that digital evidence is securely stored, cryptographically protected, and immutably recorded. The implementation results demonstrate that the system successfully achieves its primary objectives. Evidence integrity is ensured through SHA-256 hashing, confidentiality is maintained using AES-256-GCM encryption, and auditability is achieved through blockchain-based chain-of-custody tracking. Additionally, the system supports secure evidence sharing through key re-wrapping and enforces role-based access control for sensitive operations such as attestation and sealing. The verification mechanism enables independent validation of evidence without requiring trust in a central authority, aligning with modern requirements for trustless systems. Overall, the proposed solution provides a robust, scalable and secure framework for managing digital evidence in forensic and legal contexts.
