Inventors include Mr. Soumyarup Dutta; Dr. Kousik Santra; Ms. Riya Ghosh; Ms. Moumita Kundu; Mr. Ankan Ghosh; and Mr. Manabendra Bhunia.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the evaluation and demonstration of anti-ulcer activity of a standardised Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller) gel preparation in an ethanol-induced gastric ulcer model. Oral administration of Aloe vera gel at 200 and 400 milligrams per kilogram body weight for seven days prior to ethanol challenge in Wistar rats produced significant dose-dependent gastroprotection of 56.40 and 71.81 percent respectively, approaching omeprazole efficacy at 76.11 percent. The Aloe vera gel restored gastric mucosal antioxidant enzymes including superoxide dismutase, catalase, and reduced glutathione while reducing malondialdehyde, enhanced mucosal defensive factors including prostaglandin E2 and mucus content, and suppressed pro-inflammatory cytokines including tumour necrosis factor-alpha by 71.4 percent. Histopathological evaluation confirmed significant preservation of mucosal architecture. The invention establishes a comprehensive scientific foundation for Aloe vera gel as a safe, effective, naturally derived gastroprotective agent suitable for pharmaceutical formulation and clinical translation.
