MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641074363 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on June 16, 2026, for Eugenol Nanoemulsion Formulation Encapsulating Ampicillin And Sulbactam.

Inventors include Natarajan Chandrasekar An; Dr. George Priya Doss C; and Mr. Mohanraj Gopikrishnan.

The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT EUGENOL NANOEMULSION FORMULATION ENCAPSULATING AMPICILLIN AND SULBACTAM A nanoemulsion formulation comprises an oil phase comprising eugenol oil and a surfactant, an aqueous phase comprising ampicillin and sulbactam, and nanoscale droplets formed by combining the oil phase and the aqueous phase. The nanoscale droplets encapsulate the ampicillin and the sulbactam within a eugenol oil matrix. The surfactant may comprise Tween 80. The nanoscale droplets may have a Z-average diameter of 20.4 nm. The nanoemulsion formulation may have a polydispersity index of 0.257 and a zeta potential of -30.27 mV. A drug loading efficiency of the ampicillin and the sulbactam may be greater than 85%. The nanoemulsion formulation may exhibit antibacterial activity against Acinetobacter baumannii, including pandrug-resistant, multidrug-resistant, or carbapenem-resistant strains.
