MUMBAI, India, Aug. 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641097467 A) filed by Balvoori Carolyn Sipora; and Dr. Gayatri. V on August 12, 2026, for Eugenol-Based Kit For Detection And Control Of Aquatic Biofilms.
Inventors include Balvoori Carolyn Sipora; and Dr. Gayatri. V.
The application for the patent was published on August 21, 2026, under issue no. 34/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a eugenol-based antibiofilm composition and an integrated kit for detection and control of biofilms in aquatic systems. The invention employs eugenol, obtained from clove oil or another eugenol-containing source, as an active antibiofilm component, optionally together with plant extracts and/or essential oils. The kit comprises a microbial-concentration component, crystal violet-based biofilm detection reagent, an eugenol-containing treatment composition and an operating protocol. Aquatic bacterial isolates including Kocuria rosea, Kocuria rhizophila, Brevibacillus choshinensis and Streptococcus thoraltensis were used to evaluate biofilm formation and inhibition. Experimental results demonstrated concentration-dependent reduction of biofilm biomass by eugenol, with substantial inhibition at approximately 400 µg/ml and near-complete inhibition under tested conditions at approximately 500 µg/ml. The invention provides an integrated approach for detecting, monitoring and controlling aquatic biofilms using a naturally derived antibiofilm agent.
