MUMBAI, India, Aug. 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611072435 A) filed by Noida International University on June 11, 2026, for Ergonomic Leg Cuff Designs For Blood Pressure Detection.
Inventors include Dipak Sethi; and Money Saxena.
The application for the patent was published on August 28, 2026, under issue no. 35/2026.
Abstract: Blood pressure (BP) monitoring is a critical component of cardiovascular assessment and management. While the upper arm remains the standard site for BP measurement, certain clinical conditions necessitate the use of alternate sites, such as the thigh or lower leg. This has led to the development of specialized leg cuff designs tailored to the unique anatomical and physiological characteristics of the lower extremities. This paper explores recent innovations in leg-based blood pressure cuff technology, focusing on design modifications, sensor integration, and adaptive sizing mechanisms that enhance accuracy, comfort, and usability. Key advancements include adjustable-width cuffs, vibration and piezoelectric sensors, and smart tension control systems. These innovations not only expand BP monitoring accessibility in patients with arm limitations but also improve diagnostic capabilities in vascular assessments like the Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI). By reviewing patented technologies and clinical studies, this work highlights the growing relevance of leg-based BP cuffs in modern healthcare and the potential for future smart, wearable integration.
