MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202531023588 A) filed by Hindustan Aeronautics Limitd on March 17, 2025, for Equipment For Testing Of Reed Relay Of Oil Level Indicator Of Engine.
Inventors include Sumanta Kumar Sahoo; and Manas Ranjan Subudhi.
The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.
Abstract: Oil level indicator is a device, which monitors the level of engine oil (lubricant) in the Oil tank. The system operates using the principle of magnetism. lt consists of Reed relays and float with permanent magnet (104). Reed Relay is a contacting device (105, 106, 107, 108) which makes contact in presence of magnetic field and breaks contact at absence of magnetic field. The oil level indicator is installed on the oil tank, which helps to show oil level of level high / low (101 ,1021.lt is also used during oil filling in the tank. During repair activity of the Oil level indicator, Reed Relays are mandatorily replaced. lt takes a long time for to check one set of relays as it goes through the assembly process in the oil level indicator and then test in the hydraulic test rig. lf it is found faulty, then it needs to be changed again from the oil level indicator every time. So the standard process generally becomes very time consuming, takes around 2 working days in particular cases due to non-availability of an individual relay tester. To overcome this, one reed relay tester is developed and tested with magnetic ring without hydraulic test rig. ln the test set-up one reed relay holder (2021is fixed with a ruler scale on a small stand. One DC power supply (2041is used to provide supply to complete test rig. The reed relay is placed on stand (202) with ruler set-up. One visual indicator (203) is provided to check the functionality of the reed relay. ln the presence of magnetic field, the reed relay is operated and indicator shows the readiness of reed relay.
