Abstract: The present invention pertains to an intelligent school transportation management system with the internet of things (IoT) that is implemented by face recognition, embedded computing, global positioning system (GPS), global system for mobile communications (GSM), cloud computing and wireless communication technologies to automate the attendance, transportation monitoring, and notification to parents. The proposed system consists of a face recognition module for capturing and verifying students' facial images, an embedded controller to process attendance and coordinate the system, a GPS module to track the vehicle's location, a GSM module to communicate and send notifications of attendance to the registered parents/guardians automatically, and a cloud-based database for storing and monitoring the transportation records in the centralized database. The facial authentication is successful, and the system automatically logs in with attendance information, date and time, bus identification, geographical location, generates personalized notification messages, and synchronizes transportation information with the centralized monitoring platform that is accessible to authorized school administrators. The invention eliminates the need for manual attendance recording, RFID card and finger print based authentication and prevents proxy attendance and enhances the transportation transparency. The proposed architecture can be deployed in various school buses, can provide secure attendance management, monitor the transportation in real-time, and can facilitate communication between the schools and parents. The invention not only enhances student safety, but also achieves efficient administration, accurate student attendance, and intelligent management of school transportation systems, while also being scalable, reliable, and intelligent.
