MUMBAI, India, July 13 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202441039595 A) filed by Carborundum Universal Limited on May 21, 2024, for Enhanced Waterproofing With Nanomaterials In Cement Polymer Composites And Thereof.

Inventors include Jabeen Fatima Manamkeri Jaffarali; Ponnarassery Sukumaran Jayan; Premnath Kunnath Nelloli; and Sivakumaran Maruvakkat Vasudevan.

Abstract: ABSTRACT ENHANCED WATERPROOFING WITH NANOMATERIALS IN CEMENT POLYMER COMPOSITES AND THEREOF The invention pertains to a process for preparing cement polymer composites, said 5 process comprises the steps of: a. Preparing a dispersion of graphene-based nanomaterials; b. Mixing the dispersion with the polymer modifier to form a mixture; c. Combining Portland cement with the mixture to form a homogeneous composite material; d. Applying the composite material to a surface or mold to form a coating or membrane; e. Curing the applied composite at room temperature for 3–4 days. The 10 invention further pertains to a cement polymer composite, the composite comprises :Portland cement; A polymer modifier selected from SBR latex, acrylic latex, polyurethane dispersion, epoxy-based compounds, and PVA; Graphene-based nanomaterials selected from GO and GNPs; Water; wherein the composite exhibits enhanced waterproofing and mechanical properties compared to a similar composite without graphene-based 15 nanomaterials. The invention provides an effective solution for waterproofing applications due to its combined properties of durability, flexibility, and impermeability. Graphene nanoplatelets or graphene oxide can be used to reinforce the coating and improve its mechanical and barrier properties.
