MUMBAI, India, Sept. 28 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511018526 A) filed by G. B. Pant University Of Agriculture & Technology on March 03, 2025, for Enhanced Interfacial Stability Of Reinforcements In Aluminium Matrix/B4c Nanoparticulate Composites.

Inventors include V. K Singh; Saurabh Kafaltiya; and Sakshi Chauhan.

The application for the patent was published on September 25, 2026, under issue no. 39/2026.

Abstract: Nanoparticles (10 nm-1 f.Lm) as a reinforcement offers superior mechanical properties compared to micro-metric particles (1 J.Lm-400 J.LID). However, the dispersion of finer reinforcement particles and its interfacial integrity within the metal matrix present considerable challenges in the fabrication of Metal Matrix Nano- Composites (MMNCs). A functionalization apparatus was utilized for the surface modification of boron carbide (B4C) nanoparticles prior to their integration into the aluminium matrix. The process of oxidative acid treatment, which includes methods such as wet oxidation using sulphuric acid is employed to introduce oxygen functional groups onto the surface of the carbide, thus enhancing its wettability and enabling its application as a superior functional reinforcing agent. FTIR results confirm the successful attachment of oxygen-containing functional groups, such as hydroxyl and ketone, to the otherwise inert BDC particles. The incorporation of modified B4C nanoparticles improved the tensile strength and interfacial stability of composite, as evidenced by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results.
