Abstract: The present invention relates to an engineered probiotic consortium for targeted gut microbiome modulation. The consortium comprises a plurality of compatible probiotic microorganisms arranged in a predefined viable cell ratio, wherein each microorganism performs a complementary microbiome-restoring function. The consortium includes a mucosal adhesion strain, a short-chain fatty acid-supporting strain, a pathogen-suppressing strain, an anti-inflammatory or barrier-supporting strain, and a redox-balancing or anaerobic-supporting strain. The probiotic microorganisms are incorporated within a protective delivery matrix comprising alginate, pectin, chitosan, resistant starch, inulin, enteric polymer, or combinations thereof. The matrix protects the microorganisms during gastric transit and releases viable cells under intestinal conditions. The consortium may include gut-environment responsive modules activated by pH, bile salts, inflammatory metabolites, quorum molecules, or oxygen levels. Safety containment features limit uncontrolled persistence. The invention provides improved probiotic survivability, targeted intestinal release, pathogen suppression, metabolite production, and restoration of microbial diversity.
