MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641073020 A) filed by Saveetha Institute Of Medical And Technical Sciences on June 12, 2026, for Endolifescan: An Artificial Intelligence Based Mobile Application For Detection Of Wear And Structural Degradation In Endodontic Rotary Files.
Inventors include Viren K Lodha; Manish Ranjan; and Deepak Nallaswamy Veeraiyan.
The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a novel mobile application, EndoLifeScan, for the nondestructive assessment of endodontic rotary file wear and structural integrity. The application employs a standardized three-image capture protocol, wherein each rotary file is photographed at three equidistant angular positions separated by 120 degrees, providing complete circumferential visual coverage. The acquired images are processed by an embedded artificial intelligence engine that analyses surface morphology, taper consistency, helical flute integrity, and tip geometry to compute a Fracture Risk Percentage (FRP) and a Structural Integrity Score (SIS). The application provides real-time, chairside guidance to the clinician regarding the continued safe use, caution, or retirement of each rotary file. The invention aims to reduce the incidence of intracanal rotary file separation and associated procedural complications in endodontic practice.
