Abstract: The present invention discloses an encapsulated bio-inoculant composition comprising a synergistic consortium of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR), namely Bacillus subtilis (MTCC 2445), Pseudomonas fluorescens (MTCC 103), and Azospirillum brasilense (MTCC 2580), entrapped within a composite biopolymer matrix of sodium alginate (2.5% w/v) enriched with biochar (2% w/v) and humic acid (0.25% w/v), crosslinked with calcium chloride, and coated with a semi-permeable chitosan shell (0.5% w/v). The encapsulated beads exhibit spherical morphology with a diameter of 1 to 3 mm, maintain viable cell counts exceeding 10^9 CFU/g for twelve months at room temperature, and release viable PGPR cells in a sustained manner over 30 to 90 days post-soil application. Field trials demonstrate statistically significant improvements in germination, shoot growth, nitrogen availability, and grain yield over conventional biofertilizer formulations, reducing chemical fertilizer requirement by at least 30%.
