MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641076739 A) filed by Ifet College Of Engineering on June 21, 2026, for Emergency Vehicle-Responsive Traffic Signal Control System Using Audio- Visual Detection Fusion.
Inventors include Ms. P. Pravina; and S. Deepan.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an emergency vehicle-responsive traffic signal control system comprising a microphone-based audio detection module (102), a camera-based image detection module (104), an audio feature extraction unit (106), an image processing and vehicle detection unit (108), a decision-level fusion unit (110), a wireless communication interface (112), a microcontroller-based traffic control unit (114), a traffic signal override unit (116), a traffic light indication assembly (118), and a power supply unit (120). The audio detection module (102) acquires roadway sound signals, while the image detection module (104) captures traffic scene images for emergency vehicle identification. The decision-level fusion unit (110) evaluates independently generated audio and image detection information and produces an emergency condition output. Upon detection of an emergency vehicle, the traffic control unit (114) actuates the traffic signal override unit (116) to provide priority passage and subsequently restores normal signal operation after cessation of the emergency condition. The system enables automated emergency vehicle prioritization without requiring dedicated vehicle-mounted identification infrastructure.
