The application for the patent was published on September 11, 2026, under issue no. 37/2026.
Abstract: Disclosed is a self-contained apparatus, and a method and medium, for monitoring compliance with a face-covering protocol. A camera captures a video of a place and an embedded processor detects a face in a frame and classifies the detected face as masked or unmasked using a neural network executed on the embedded processor itself. The processor actuates a local alert device, such as a buzzer or lamp, when a face is classified as unmasked, in one embodiment only when the confidence exceeds a threshold and the classification persists over consecutive frames, suppressing spurious alerts. The detection and classification are performed on the apparatus without transmitting the frame to a remote server, so the determination is made with low latency, continues when a network is unavailable, avoids transmitting images of persons, and is deployable at low cost. A record without any image may be stored locally or reported.
