MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641115422 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on September 26, 2026, for Embedded Physiological Monitoring Apparatus With Patient Specific Boundaries And Non-Blocking Alert Scheduling.
Inventors include Sivakumar Rajagopal; and Aditi Giriraj.
The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.
Abstract: EMBEDDED PHYSIOLOGICAL MONITORING APPARATUS WITH PATIENT-SPECIFIC BOUNDARIES AND NON-BLOCKING ALERT SCHEDULING An embedded physiological monitoring apparatus (100) comprises an optical photoplethysmography sensor (102) configured to acquire pulse-wave samples, a microcontroller (104) configured to derive heart-rate estimates and beat timestamps, and a validity-gating module (106) configured to admit only heart-rate estimates satisfying a predetermined validity criterion as accepted heart-rate estimates. A fixed-length circular buffer (108) stores accepted heart-rate estimates in SRAM (130). A statistical processing module (112) calculates a baseline mean and dispersion value in a single pass, applies a non-zero dispersion floor, and generates patient-specific physiological boundaries subject to physiological clamps. An independent beat-interval processing module (114) determines an interval-variability state independently of a rate-based physiological state indicator. A timer-scheduled alert-output state machine (116) controls an alert output (110) according to an elapsed timer interval without executing a blocking delay, permitting continued servicing of a sensor FIFO (103) and acquisition of subsequent pulse-wave samples.
