The elevator machine (5) further comprises a motor (9) that is configured for rotationally driving the shaft (12) and a brake (20) for braking rotation of the shaft (12). The motor (9), the brake (20) and the sheave portion (26) are arranged along the axial direction (A) such that the brake (20) is arranged between the motor (9) and the sheave portion (26).
