MUMBAI, India, July 31 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202411099580 A) filed by Chandigarh Group Of Colleges on December 16, 2024, for Electrowetting-Activated Ink Absorption Surface System.

Inventors include Dr. Pradeep Gaur; Saloni Kashyap; and Suryavanshi Katoch.

Abstract: The invention relates to a self-erasing whiteboard system featuring a multilayer structure that enables automatic ink absorption and removal. The system includes a polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) hydrogel layer, a perforated silicone adhesion layer, an indium tin oxide (ITO) layer, a super absorbent polymer (SAP)-infused hydrophilic foam layer, and a wooden support layer. The PVA hydrogel layer transitions from hydrophobic to hydrophilic upon activation by a power supply, which provides an adjustable DC voltage to the ITO layer. This voltage regulates the retention time of ink on the surface, allowing for ink absorption into the SAP-infused foam after a predetermined time. The system is compatible with standard whiteboard markers and features adjustable ink retention time. The SAP-infused foam permanently traps ink, preventing backflow. This self-erasing functionality offers a convenient, efficient way to manage ink on a whiteboard surface, enhancing long-term usability while reducing manual erasure efforts. FIG. 1
