Abstract: The present invention relates to an electromechanically movable road divider system for creating a temporary clearance path for an authorised emergency vehicle. The system comprises a movable road divider (102), an emergency-vehicle identification subsystem (104), a traffic and divider-position sensing subsystem (106), an embedded control unit (108), a motor drive unit (110), an electromechanical actuator (112), a rack-and-pinion transmission assembly (114), and a status indication and alert unit (116). Upon identification of an authorised emergency vehicle, the embedded control unit (108) actuates the movable road divider (102) laterally through the electromechanical actuator (112) and rack-and-pinion transmission assembly (114) until a predetermined displaced position is detected. The embedded control unit (108) determines and stores an outward travel duration and, after emergency-vehicle clearance, controls return displacement of the movable road divider (102) towards a predetermined centre position using the stored travel duration.
