MUMBAI, India, Oct. 5 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202631114379 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Indian School Of Mines, Dhanbad on September 24, 2026, for Electrical Discharge Machining System And Method Having Gravity-Induced Suction For Debris Removal.
Inventors include Dr. Vivek Bajpai; Dhiraj Bajpai; and Archana Bajpai.
The application for the patent was published on October 02, 2026, under issue no. 40/2026.
Abstract: An electrical discharge machining (EDM) system (100) comprises a working tank (111), a tool electrode (102) and a workpiece (109) disposed in a dielectric fluid and defining a machining zone in which debris (104) is generated, a flushing nozzle (101) supplying the dielectric fluid to the machining zone at a flushing pressure (Pf), a dielectric storage tank (108), and a suction pipe (105) fluidly connecting the machining zone to the dielectric storage tank (108) with an inlet proximal to the machining zone. A vertical height difference (106) between the working tank (111) and the dielectric storage tank (108) generates a gravity-induced suction pressure (Ps) at the inlet, and the pressures (Pf, Ps) establish a controlled pressure difference directing the dielectric fluid and the debris (104) away as a controlled debris flow (103) through the suction pipe (105) towards the dielectric storage tank (108). A method (200) is also disclosed.
