Abstract: Proposed invention presents a highly efficient means of converting and controlling power for PV powered EV systems using an ultra- lift step-up converter coordinated by an electric fish optimized PI controller. PV systems produce low DC voltages which are not sufficient to supply EV loads, therefore the ultra-lift step-up converter boosts the supply voltage to a stable higher DC output by achieving an extremely large gain without using high duty cycles. The actual output voltage is continuously compared to a reference value in a closed-loop control structure and error is handled by a PI controller whose parameters are optimally adjusted using EFO algorithm. Under changing solar irradiance and load conditions, this bio-inspired optimization ensures quicker convergence, lower steady-state error and enhanced dynamic response. In order to ensure output voltage regulation and system stability, optimized controller produces enhanced PWM signals that drive converter switches. Overall, invention improves PV-fed EV systems energy harvesting efficiency, conversion performance and dependability.
