MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641115815 A) filed by Kalasalingam Academy Of Research And Education on September 28, 2026, for Elder Stroller With Path Surface Variation Detection Sensing And Audio Alert To Avert Accident.

Inventors include Dr. S. Shasi; and Dr. P. Jayakumar.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The titled invention discloses elder stroller with path surface variation detection sensing and audio alert to avert accident protect the medical rehabilitation patients in 5 the elder stroller (1) from the uneven surface such as bumps, deep pit holes in the outside environment during the transport. A pair of surface variation detecting sensors (8) mounted near the foot rest continuously scan the path ahead using an infrared transmitter and receiver. A microcontroller interface (10) processes distance data relative to a standard baseline height. Upon detecting an upward variation as a -X 10 value due to bumps or a downward variation as a +X value due to potholes, the microcontroller evaluates the signals against pre-set tolerance boundaries designed to ignore minor surface micro-roughness. If a deviation exceeds the established threshold, then the microcontroller interface (10) triggers the alert audio alarm through speaker (9) placed on the elder stroller (1). By hearing the warning, the caregiver can 15 immediately steer the stroller in a safer direction, preventing harsh impacts for the patient in the elder stroller (1).
