MUMBAI, India, Sept. 22 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641110065 A) filed by Vellore Institute Of Technology on September 14, 2026, for Edge-Based Firewall Exposure Prediction And Adaptive Policy Management System And Method.

Inventor includes Navaneethan C.

The application for the patent was published on September 18, 2026, under issue no. 38/2026.

Abstract: ABSTRACT EDGE-BASED FIREWALL EXPOSURE PREDICTION AND ADAPTIVE POLICY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM AND METHOD An edge-based firewall exposure prediction and adaptive policy management system (100) comprises a perimeter firewall device (102) enforcing access control rules governing traffic between external traffic sources (104), internal network zones (106), and critical assets (108), and an edge firewall intelligence agent (110) operatively coupled thereto. The edge firewall intelligence agent (110) ingests local telemetry comprising firewall logs, rule configurations, scheduled rule changes, and threat intelligence summaries, constructs a time-layered connectivity model of predicted communication paths for future time intervals, computes quantitative exposure scores, identifies access control rules exceeding a risk threshold, derives candidate mitigation actions, selects a mitigation action by a reinforcement learning policy engine (122), applies the selected mitigation action to the perimeter firewall device (102) through a programmatic interface (140), and derives a reward value from re-computed exposure scores and measured disruption to legitimate traffic to update a policy of the reinforcement learning policy engine (122).
