Abstract: [079] The present invention relates to an Edge-AI based driver alertness monitoring and multi-stage active vehicle mitigation system for detecting driver fatigue, drowsiness and microsleep and initiating progressive safety responses. The system comprises a night-vision camera, an embedded Edge-AI processing module, a driver monitoring module, a pre-drive assessment module, a multi-stage mitigation module, a vehicle integration module, a GPS and wireless communication module and a hybrid power management module. The camera continuously captures driver facial information, while the Edge-AI processing module analyses facial landmarks, eye movements, blinking characteristics and head posture to determine a driver alertness condition. Upon detection of a predetermined fatigue condition, a first-stage audio warning is generated. If the driver remains unresponsive, a second-stage response activates vehicle hazard lights, and if the critical condition persists, a third-stage response obtains the vehicle's GPS location and transmits emergency information to an authorized recipient or control centre through a wireless communication network. The system further incorporates a flexible solar panel, rechargeable battery and vehicle electrical power source for hybrid energy management and includes a pre-drive driver alertness assessment. The invention provides an affordable, compact, low-power and scalable safety architecture suitable for passenger cars, buses, taxis, commercial vehicles and logistics fleets, while reducing dependence on continuous cloud processing and providing automated progressive intervention.
